WHAT IS HYRO?
Helping Youth Reach Opportunity (HYRO) is an international initiative dedicated to promoting positive youth development best practices in local communities. The initiative was founded in 2021 by global youth development organization, Boy With a Ball (BWAB), in coordination with the Institute for International Youth Development (IIYD) with the central aim of mobilizing more community stakeholders into implementing evidence-based best practices in positive youth development while improving the quality of those currently working in the space.
The initiative is built around an esteemed scientific advisory board in the field of youth development who have worked with BWAB and IIYD staff to set out a list of eight critical pillars to effective work with young people called the Helping Youth Reach Opportunity (HYRO) Standards. The HYRO Standards are a downloadable list that the initiative will work to publish, share and disseminate in local communities across the world including training tools and workshops.
